TACTILE SENSORY AUGMENTATION
ELECTRONICS, NYLON, MDF, FABRIC
The brain can learn to feel data from digital sources using tactile interfaces, such as the stroke of a feather or the tug of a string. This is a project about the body as a site for design, looking at the difference between data visualisation and data experientialisation.
What is the difference between understanding and sensing? Based upon transhumanist principles of the body’s imperfect functionality, these three haptic exoskeletons are designed to augment our sensory capabilities. They create new biological languages to input and output using the body.
